Louis Vuitton's Resort 2018 Collection

 

Louis Vuitton showcased its Resort 2018 Collection in Kyoto, Japan. Nicolas Ghesquière’s designs were a result of his collaboration with the Japanese designer Kansai Yamamoto. The show was held at the Miho Museum. The runway was full of bold extravagant designs that resembled the unconventional film series from the 70s Stray Cat Rock.

The Bold Cat Eyes

The makeup artist Pat MacGrath brought an extreme cat-eye with bold black wings, overly extended from the outer corners.The makeup artists used colorful pigments and played with their brushes all over model’s faces to create edgy futuristic looks that match Ghesquière’s rebellious designs. The colorful shades gave another dimension to the model’s faces. The whole accent was on the brows and the eyes with no attention to the lips.

The Clothes

The collection was a mixture of classic motifs native to Japan–inked landscapes, ceremonial dress, samurai clothing, the keikogi robe-like outfit worn for martial arts, as well as cinematic influences from Japanese directors Akira Kurosawa and Takeshi Kitano.There were pantsuits and tunics featuring Hokusai-like prints, Leather sweaters call to mind Japanese warriors' armor, Obi belts, evening dresses with gold sequins.

The designer created icons, symbols, and characters for the accessories, which featured Kabuki mask-like designs as a tribute to designer Kansai Yamamoto.
